UN RESIDENT COORDINATOR APPLAUDS HRCSL FOR MAINTAINING A 'GRADE A' STATUS

The UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Seraphine Wakana during a courtesy call to the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) on Friday 1st March, 2024 applauded the Commission for maintaining a 'Grade A' status and for its good work locally and internationally.

 

She was received by the Chairperson of the Commission, Mrs. Patricia Narsu Ndanema, who expressed delight for the Resident Coordinator’s visit, highlighting the role of UNDP in the Commission’s operations. She concluded by wishing the Resident Coordinator well in the execution of her duties in Sierra Leone.

The purpose of the visit was to familiarize herself with the operations of the Commission. The meeting also discussed areas for possible continuous collaboration and partnership with the UN.

Ms. Wakana described her visit as an opportunity to consult with the Commission on the development of the new UN strategy and that agencies should align their activities with strategy.  

She stated that the Commission is a key partner to the UN, as according to her, all what the UN does is centered on human rights in all countries. 

The Vice Chairperson, Victor Idrissa Lansana Esq. did a PowerPoint presentation, articulating the background to the setting up of the Commission, activities implemented in 2023, as well as achievements and challenges.

Other issues discussed were plans for 2024 in line with the UN development agenda.
